When I heard the sinister term "storm train" I pictured images of a relentless, earth-shattering, destructive locomotive barreling through the skies.

However, the truth is even more unsettling.

A storm train is a meteorological phenomenon that brings not just rain and gusty winds but also the potential for severe damage to your buildings.

As November ushers in, the Northwest prepares for the return of these turbulent storm systems, collectively known as the storm train.

This relentless and unyielding succession of weather systems is a force to be reckoned with, especially during the winter months.

In today’s blog I’ll go into what a storm train truly is and uncover the imminent peril it poses to your structures.

A storm train, in meteorological terms, is a harrowing sequence of storms that march across the landscape, one after another, like a relentless army.

These meteorological warriors arrive with such rapidity that they have earned the nickname "storm train."

They are notorious for their persistence, often tormenting the region for at least a week.

Each storm in the train brings its own set of challenges.

The most alarming aspect is the powerful wind gusts that accompany these tempests, which can lead to wind damage of varying degrees, particularly in coastal areas.

But the destructive potential doesn't end there; heavy rain, fierce winds, and unpredictable weather patterns can combine to create a dangerous cocktail of elements that threaten your buildings.

Your buildings, whether residential or commercial, are at the mercy of this relentless meteorological barrage.
The storm train's unyielding succession of storms can have a devastating impact on your structures.

Here's how:

1. Roof Damage: The strong wind gusts that are a hallmark of the storm train can tear shingles from your roof, leading to leaks, water damage, and potential structural issues.

2. Flood Risk: Heavy and continuous rain is a significant concern. It can overwhelm drainage systems, leading to flooding, which can cause significant damage to your property's interior and foundation.

3. Structural Stress: The constant battering of your building by these successive storms can place immense stress on its structural integrity, potentially leading to long-term damage.

4. Safety Hazards: Falling branches, debris, and even trees can pose safety hazards during a storm train. These hazards can damage your property or, even worse, harm the people within.

Now that you are aware of the storm train's potential threat, it's crucial to take measures to protect your buildings and minimize the damage.

Ensure your roofs are in good condition, clean out gutters and drainage systems, and consider reinforcing your property against the potential onslaught.

As the active jet stream brings forth this parade of storms, your buildings are at risk.

Arm yourself with knowledge, be prepared, and take action to safeguard your investments.

The storm train may be relentless, but your defense against its fury can make all the difference.

In my next blog I'll drill down on how to fortify your building before a storm train strikes and how GEI (Global ENCASEMENT, Inc.) Green Coatings ENCASEMENT can help prepare and defend your buildings.
