Atmospheric rivers, often likened to rivers in the sky, might sound like a concept straight out of science fiction, I know it did for me, but they are an increasingly widespread and destructive events.

In this episode I look at the effect of atmospheric rivers and how you can defend and protect your properties against them while protecting the environment.

Just last week, California bore the brunt of these atmospheric juggernauts, with flash floods, hurricane-force winds, and widespread power outages wreaking havoc across the state.

But what exactly are atmospheric rivers?

Imagine long, narrow corridors in the sky, acting as channels for vast amounts of water vapor, much like their earthly counterparts.

They can vary in size and strength, but on average, they transport as much water vapor as the mighty Mississippi River flows into the Gulf of Mexico.

In extreme cases, they can carry up to 15 times that amount, unleashing torrents of rain or snow when they hit land.

The consequences of these atmospheric rivers can be devastating, leading to flooding, property damage, and infrastructure disruptions.

However, there is hope—a revolutionary approach to fortifying structures against the fury of nature, with a mindful eye towards environmental protection.

Enter green coatings encasement—a game-changer in the battle against atmospheric onslaughts, with a core commitment to environmental stewardship.

These coatings offer a lifespan guaranteed for two decades, providing a formidable shield for buildings and infrastructure while causing no ecological harm.

By opting for this proactive defense, you not only enhance your resilience but also contribute to the preservation of our planet's delicate balance of stopping the generation, transportation and storage of harmful waste while also minimizing the use of our precious natural resources.

Preparing for the next atmospheric river isn't just prudent; it's essential.

And with the new opportunity of green coatings encasement, you can turn the tide in your favor, safeguarding your assets and ensuring resilience in the face of nature's fury—all while reducing your environmental footprint.

Don't wait until disaster strikes—take charge of your property protection today, with a commitment to sustainability at the forefront.

Green coatings encasement embodies a holistic approach to structural resilience, integrating environmental consciousness into every aspect of its design and application.

Unlike conventional weak paint and cheap encapsulants that may rely on harmful chemicals or contribute to pollution, green coatings are formulated with eco-friendly materials that prioritize sustainability and minimize environmental impact.

One key feature that sets green coatings apart is their ability to repel water and wind to prevent moisture and draft infiltration without compromising environmental integrity.

By forming a seamless barrier over surfaces that moves (stretches and shrinks) with the surface it’s defending, these coatings are guaranteed to protect against water and wind damage for the long term.

Furthermore, the right green coatings contain zero to minimal VOC's (Volatile Organic Compounds) are Non-Toxic, Class A-Fire Rated and Biodegradable.

They are engineered to withstand the rigors of the natural environment without causing harm to delicate ecosystems.

Whether it's intense UV radiation, water, fluctuating temperatures, or high winds, these coatings provide reliable, long term protection while preserving the ecological balance of our surroundings.

Moreover, the right green coatings promote energy reflecting sunlight and reducing heat absorption, thereby lowering the demand for artificial cooling systems and mitigating the urban heat island effect.

By reducing energy consumption, these coatings help combat climate change and promote a more sustainable built environment.

In addition to their environmental benefits, the right green coatings also offer economic advantages.

While the initial investment may be slightly higher than traditional, weak paint, the long-term savings in maintenance and energy costs far outweigh the upfront expenses.

With a lifespan of up to two decades, the right green coatings provide lasting value while supporting environmental conservation efforts.

In conclusion, green coatings encasement represents a groundbreaking solution for protecting against atmospheric rivers and other increasing, extreme weather events with a steadfast commitment to environmental protection.

By embracing green technology and sustainable practices, we can fortify our built environment while safeguarding the natural world for future generations.

So, don't wait until disaster strikes—embrace this new opportunity with the power of green coatings encasement and pave the way towards a greener, more resilient future.

The three options of dealing with asbestos are removal, do nothing and the more practical, widely accepted method of in-place management. I’ll be examining the option of in-place management which is often the best choice for many projects.

The first time I heard about Earth Day was when I was in the eighth grade and my well admired and clever science teacher opened up a discussion on the cons of earth day stating it was some sort of liberal nonsense and a hoax. This agitated most of the class. He further stirred the pot by claiming that it didn’t matter how much pollution we caused, that the planet could take care of itself. He went on to say that the oceans were so vast and deep enough that we could go on dumping in them for hundreds of years and never have a negative impact. We could continue to let industry spew out pollutants into the air and never face any consequences. He was insistent that we could deposit waste where ever and how ever we wanted and that the earth and environment would, as if by magic, absorb it all.

Asbestos and lead-based paint – you know them well. They lurk in older schools, housing complexes, military installations and other buildings, waiting silently to inflict disease and sometimes death on their occupants. Today, asbestos-containing materials (ACM) are found in over 700,000 buildings in the United States, and loose, flaking, or peeling lead-based paint (LBP) is present in more than 72 million United States homes, schools, and other buildings constructed before 1978.

Every year damaging winds accompany hurricanes, typhoons and other strong wind events that leave a trail of destruction. Building and home owners are left with devastating huge building repairs and replacement costs. Some of these buildings can be salvaged and made stronger, defending against the next storm. Others are a complete write-off. It’s not unusual in all the destruction to see a building or house left standing with its roof and walls intact. This is usually a structure that is wind-resistant and better prepared to defend against a strong weather onslaught.
